Total Sediment Accumulation on Fire Island After Hurricane Sandy

by Emily Jainarain

Submitted : Fall 2017

After a hurricane hit New York in 2012, researchers were interested in learning how a specific coastal area had changed pre- hurricane and post-hurricane. This project looked specifically at the total sediment accumulation in two areas of a barrier island over a period of three years using an integral. With this numerical information, conclusions were drawn about how storms, such as hurricanes, drive coastal change.
