Engineering >> Chemical & Biomedical EngineeringNaphthalene Oxidation in a Plug Flow Reactorby Steffan Conboy
Submitted : Spring 2015 In this project, a simulation of an adiabatic plug flow reactor oxidizing naphthalene was created using Microsoft Excel. This was accomplished by using the Euler marching method, a method of solving differential equations that yields the values, at certain points, of the function that satisfies the differential equation but does not give the function itself. Using the simulation created in the Excel spreadsheet, the minimum temperature at which reactant must enter the reactor in order to achieve complete conversion of reactant to products was found to be approximately 637 K and the resulting outlet temperature was found to be 804.6 K.
