Natural Sciences >> Integrative BiologyThe Effect of Phosphorus on Floridian Osprey Populationsby Nicholas Leonardi
Submitted : Spring 2015 The Tampa Bay Water Atlas documents the seasonal water monitoring and sampling data collected by the EPC for local freshwater bodies in the Tampa Bay Area. This data includes the local phosphorus content of Hillsborough Bay. By averaging each seasonal measurement through Microsoft Excel, the average phosphorus content per year could be obtained. Additionally, the National Audubon Society keeps a precise record of the annual bird count for areas throughout Florida. After obtaining and comparing data sets pertaining to the local osprey population and water’s phosphorus content, a direct correlation becomes apparent. By extrapolating equations based off the graphed numerical data through Excel, it is possible to formulate a differential equation that could model the rate of growth/decay for the osprey population.
