Engineering >> Mechanical EngineeringOptimization and Cooling Performance of Racing Radiatorsby Alberto Perdomo
Submitted : Spring 2014 The goal of this project is to optimize the performance of a radiator for racing applications. Parameters and values for this project are outlined before the optimization process. A 600 HP engine is used as a power supply with inlet and outlet radiator temperatures of 92°C and 67°C respectively. The heat load on the radiator was determined: 503,152 BTU/hr. The heat transfer rate for the starting radiator was calculated in watts (W). Trigonometric methods for optimization were used to increase surface area of the final radiator significantly. This resulted in a radiator with optimal shape and surface area capable of supporting the engines heat load.
