Gompertz Equation: Quantifying Growth Rates of Tumors

by Kevin Petersen

Submitted : Spring 2014

Gompertz Equation is used to measure the growth of tumors within organisms. Using this time-series equation, also known as a sigmoid function, medical professionals will be able to determine where the growth is the slowest (minimum) and the fastest (maximum), from start to end. By calculation the growth rate of cancer, the equation determines when the cancer needs to be removed before it metastasizes (spreads) throughout the human body.
