Medicine >> HospitalFourier Transform: Magnetic Resonance Imagingby Kristen Truong
Submitted : Spring 2014 Fourier Transform is used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans to simplify complex waves by rewriting the complex wave as a series of simple waves, such as sine or cosine waves. In order to accurately understand Fourier Transform, there must be a basic understanding of the magnetic properties of the Magnetic Resonance magnet and K-space. Data points are stored in K-space and the number of data points on each filled line in K-space creates a MRI scan of pixels. Using Fourier Transform, these pixels are assigned a grayscale color according to frequency amplitudes at specific spatial locations.
