Bicycle Speed through Different Gears with Drag

by Deepya Nallamshetty

Submitted : Spring 2013

The velocity (v) as a function of time (t) has been studied for the gear changes in the range G1-G7. The most striking feature is the increase in velocity as the gear changes from G1 to G7. The experimental results are analyzed, taking into account the velocity will be continuous across shift of gears and angular velocity of the pedal and radius of the rear sprocket will change instantaneously. The bicycle speed through different gears is briefly reported. The bicycle is accelerating through the first three gears.
