The application of Calculus to the fields of Biology and Medicine is quite significant. In this particular case, the measurement of the effectiveness and health of pain relieving pills is measured using integrative properties. The three types of analgesics used in this project include aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen; common over-the-counter pain pills. By taking the integral of the concentrations of each analgesic in the bloodstream and in the stomach, the pain pill least likely to lead to gastric bleeding and ulcers and the pain pill that is most effective can be determined. After calculations and graphing, acetaminophen was found to be the most effective and least likely to lead to stomach ulcers and bleeding due to its lower acidity and high rate of absorption in the body.
