Evidence of a barrier oxidation dependence on the interfacial magnetism in Co/alumina based magnetic tunnel junctions
JOURNAL OF APPLIED PHYSICS 99 (8): Art. No. 08E505 APR 15 2006
...The results demonstrate a strong correlation between the Co moments and measured TMR values, and an enhancement in the Co moments for moderate oxidation times. ...

First-principles calculations on magnetic properties of interface-rippled Co/alpha-Al2O3/Co
APPLIED PHYSICS LETTERS 88 (13): Art. No. 132512 MAR 27 2006
...Interestingly, the lattice mismatch between oxygen-terminated alpha-Al2O3 (0001) and Co (111) was less than 0.56%. This appears to be a much
smaller value compared to the previous calculation by Oleinik et al.[7] ...
... It is worth mentioning that the ripple of the Co-interface slabs in this
letter could not be seen in the previous first-principles calculation report
by Oleinik et al.[7] The measured value of the rippled slab distance
of Co(1)-Co(2) is much larger than the value of optimized structure of
Oleinik et al. Also there is a discrepancy in the Co-O bond length of 2.01 A for
this work and 2.12 A for the previous work. ...

Negative spin polarization and large tunneling magnetoresistance in epitaxial Co vertical bar SrTiO3 vertical bar Co magnetic tunnel junctions
PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 95 (21): Art. No. 216601 NOV 18 2005
... It was found that the SP of the Co|SrTiO3 interface is positive similar to
that of Co|Al2O3. This result might be the consequence of O atoms
adsorbed by the Co surface as was recently predicted for
Co|Al2O3|Co MTJs[22]. ...

Spin-dependent tunneling through high-k LaAlO3
APPLIED PHYSICS LETTERS 87 (21): Art. No. 212501 NOV 21 2005
...To explain the negative spin polarization of the STO-Co interface, Oleynik et al. performed theoretical calculations and predicted the presence of a small
magnetic moment on the Ti atoms ... However, Co appears to grow in hcp
structure and (0001)-oriented on perovskites and this magnetic moment on Ti
could not be detected experimentally[20,21]. Furthermore, in LAO the
ion occupying the B site is Al that has no empty d shells that could
hybridize with the orbitals of Co. All these considerations lead us to consider
alternative scenarios to explain the striking similatities of the LSMO/STO/Co and
LSMO/LAO/Co systems.
