Grades for the Course Listed by Students' Code Names (posted Dec 13, 2001):
The grades AVG1 and Course Grade were calculated using the method described in the syllabus below. Beside each Course Grade the corresponding Letter Grade is given. If you have any questions send me an email to eclark@math.usf.edu. Note that some of the code names were difficult to read. I either guessed or put ? where I could not read a letter. You should be able to figure out which is yours by the previous grades. The code name none represents a student who either did not give a code name or did not take the Final. The column headed by ECr indicates the extra credit given for attending the Nagle Lecture.

TEXT: Calculus: One and
Several Variables (8th edition) by Salas, Hille, Etgen;
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
We
will cover most sections of Chapters 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 in the text.
See the sections covered by each exam below for more details. There
may be a few things mentioned in class that are not in the text. Students
will be responsible for all material presented in class.
PREQUISITES:
MAC 2311 Calculus I
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Attendance will not be taken and will not form a part of the grade. However,
students
are responsible for all material presented in the class even if it
is not in the textbook. So if you cannot attend a class, I
suggest that you obtain notes from someone who did.
HOMEWORK: Homework
assignments will be given in class after each section is covered.
They will also be posted on my homepage at URL: http://www.math.usf.edu/~eclark/cal2_001_hw.htmlHomework
will not be collected and graded. But since the exams will
for the most part be based on the homework, it behooves students to work
all assigned problems. Ample time will be given in class to go over assigned
problems. Students will profit best by working the problems for a section
as soon as the section is covered in class.
TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE:
The
dates and material covered given below are subject to change if the need
arises. Use of calculators will not be permitted on exams.
EXAM | DATE | SECTIONS COVERED |
1 | Fri., Sept. 21 | 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4 |
2 | Fri., Oct 12 | 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5 |
3 | Fri., Nov 2 | 8.7 and 10.1 through 10.7 |
4 | Fri., Nov. 30 | 11.1 through 11.8 |
Final | Wed., Dec. 12, 3:30-5:30PM | The Final is a comprehensive exam. It will cover everything in the course. |
MAKEUP POLICY:
There will be no makeups for Exams 1, 2, 3, and 4. A student
missing one or more of these for any reason will have to take the
Final. See the Grading Policy below.
GRADING POLICY:
Each exam will be given a score from 0 to 100. I will use the following
method to compute your course grade: Let
AVG1 be the average
of the scores on Exam 1, Exam 2, Exam 3, and Exam 4. Let
AVG2
be the number obtained by replacing the lowest of the scores on Exam
1, Exam 2, Exam 3, Exam 4 by the score obtained on the Final Exam
and
taking the average.
The Course Grade will
be maximum of the numbers AVG1,
AVG2, and the
Final
Exam score. Thus, students satisfied with AVG1
will not have to take the Final, and in any case students may rest their
entire course grade on the Final. There will be no curve. The
following scale will be used to convert the Course Grade to a Letter
Grade:
98-100 = A+, 93-97 =
A, 90-92 = A-,
88-89 = B+,
83-87 = B, 80-82 = B-,
78-79 = C+,
73-77 = C, 70-72 = C-,
68-69 = D+,
63-67 = D, 60-62 = D-,
0-59
= F.
