ADVANTAGES OF INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE (IS)

Our grad program is a good example of what happens when smart people work together in a cooperative manner -- the total grows beyond the sum of its parts. With the help of others, I can expand my research to explore the potentials of vision, the mind, the brain, and human nature. The benefits of IS are evident in areas of rapid growth, such as Visuo-Cognitive Science -- e.g., the Vision Sciences Society, VSS

My rules for Interdisciplinary science:

Listen well and read widely -- learn so you can question authority with wisdom

Appreciate good theories and the perspectives they provide

Appreciate the constraints of evidence (but do not follow evidence blindly)

Dream, create, and follow through

Ask questions (even elementary) and be open; no individual knows it all
