This site does not list every detail. Refer to the Catalog for complete details. The purpose of this site is to help you get a rough idea on requirements and to present a list easy to look up and check.

Requirements for Ph.D. Candidacy

• Passing two Core Qualifying Exams at Ph.D. level in $13$ months after entering the program. You may repeat each exam once.

• Passing an Elective Qualifying Exam within $25$ months after entering the program.

Requirements for Ph.D. Degree

(In addition to the above requirements to Ph.D. Candidacy)

• At least $90$ hours of course work, or earned master's degree in math plus $60$ hours.

• At least $3$ years of study.

• Completing $4$ sequences among Core and Elective Sequences with at least a ``B'' average in each sequence.

  Passing a Core Qualifying Exam is considered as completing the corresponding Core Sequence.

• At least $16$ hours of MAT 7980, Dissertation. (At least $6$ hours of MAT 7980 during each previous $12$-months period.)

• External Examiner or formally accepted paper based on the Dissertation.

• Final Oral Examination.

• Final Submission of Dissertation.
