Course Description:
A seminar designed to give an overview of collection assessment and evaluation
techniques for various formats including print and electronic resources;
designed to familiarize the participants with collection assessment/evaluation
methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative; designed to prepare students
to plan and conduct collection assessment projects. The major work in the
course will be small group practicum exercises with reports.
Course Objectives: At the conclusion of the course, the student
should know and have reviewed
the major collection resources assessment tools
and methodologies
vendor products for collection assessment and
evaluation
various techniques for conducting use and
user studies
techniques for conducting needs assessments
for interdisciplinary or special populations
techniques and issues in comparative
collection assessment
writing a report for program review
There will not be a
textbook for the course.
Assignments: 1. Group evaluation project -- conducting a
collection analysis for a specific subject area for the Tampa campus library–40
points
2.
Group report for program review including collection analysis and other
assessments--40 points
3.
Class participation and exercises 20 points
