   Manoug Manougian

     Manoug Manougian is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. (1968) degrees.

     In 1968 Manougian joined the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at the University of South Florida. He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1976 and served as Chairman of the department for ten years (1974 – 84). Manougian is the author of research articles in differential equations, and his textbooks have been used in hundreds of colleges and universities. He has received numerous grants from the National Science Foundation and the Florida Department of Education to conduct special mathematics and science summer programs for gifted high school students. He is the recipient of many scholarships and awards for outstanding teaching.

     In the early 1980s Manougian served as publisher/editor for Mancorp Publishing. A sample of the books he published include “Set Theory with Applications” by Lin/Lin; “Introductory Algebra” by Mead/Powell/Young; “Advanced Ordinary Differential Equations” by Kartsatos; “Abstract and Applied Analysis” a quarterly journal with Kartsatos as Editor in Chief; “Extend Your Lifespan” by Holt/McCrory/Norris/Sandler“A Voyage of Discovery: From the Big Bang to the Ice Age” by Defant (receiving outstanding reviews from several Nobel Laureate).

     Manougian directed research on the design and construction of rocket propulsion systems. While teaching at Haigazian College he formed the Haigazian College Rocket Society. This educational program included several static tests to study rocket design and propulsion. Dozens of successful launching of single and multi-stage rockets were performed. The program culminated with the successful launching of a two-stage 19-ft rocket with a range of 90 miles.

      Recently, Manougian was associate producer and co-author of a four-hour television series, The Genocide Factor, examining the history of genocide from early times to the present. The Genocide Factor was produced by Media Entertainment and distributed by PBS stations nationwide. It received the 2002 Gold Special Jury Award at the Houston International Film Festival.

     Manougian is presently working on a summer program in mathematics, environmental science and conflict resolution titled Peace Through Education. This program is designed for gifted high school students with leadership qualities to promote peaceful coexistence for the peoples of the Middle East and beyond.
