| To measue internal suction pressure, we've implanted a catheter through the gill septum into the buccopharyngeal cavity. We can also measure external suction pressure using the same device used on the wild nurse sharks. Both suction pressures and EMGs can be measured simultaneously. | Our entire lab was also featured in a documentary about shark feeding. It aired in the United Kingdom in September 2005. The portion filmed at Mote Marine Lab, pictured above, featured Dan and Phil taking bite force measurements from sandbar and nurse sharks. Kyle is manning the computer that records the data from the force transducer. | |||
