Barge Waterline

by Timothy Aikins

Submitted : Fall 2012

The purpose of this project is to find where the water line will be on a barge once it is loaded. I was given the dimensions of the barge, as well as the thickness and density that it was constructed out of. The barge will also be carrying a load, which is given. The driving force behind this problem will be using Archimedes Principal to find out where the waterline will be. I must calculate the surface area of the barge, and how much the volume is displaced below the waterline. These calculations will give me the distance the waterline will be from the bottom of the barge.
