Surface Area of an Oil Slick

In this project one will see a detailed description of how to go about calculating the surface area of an oil slick. The information given has been made up by Dr. Scott Campbell but is certainly realistic and resembles the nature of oil spills that occur on our planet. This data is critical to obtain because many lives are at stake; it is designed to guide the reader step by step and help him or her conceptualize, solve, and save our environment.

Using calculus, differential equations and the help of sources makes it convenient when discovering detailed characteristics of an oil spill. From this project, one could say that calculating an oil slick’s area can be very difficult because there are many factors that play a negative part against our environment. To simplify this project, many factors like wind patterns, ocean currents, climate, temperature, etcetera were not taken into account. The main conclusion reveals that human beings need to act as precisely and efficiently as possible when undergoing calculations; every second that goes by could cost the lives of our beloved sea creatures.
