Cheaters in Herd Immunity

by Staci Reed

Submitted : Spring 2012

Herd immunity is important in disease prevention in humans; vaccination increases the levels of immunity in the population, but when individuals do not get vaccinated, this system falls apart and immunological “cheaters” arise. Produce models and figures describing the population levels of cheaters at which the herd immunity concept fails for a hypothetical disease and assesses the risk of infection to a cheater.
