Locations of Frets on a Guitar

by Alexander Morency

Submitted : Spring 2012

The project was relevant to the use of guitars and the positions of the fret on the neck of the guitar. I was able to find the lengths of the guitar string for different notes in a chromatic scale. Using the given form of the solution, I was able to take the partial derivative of the given form of the solution and plug it into the wave equation of the guitar string. From the results, I was able to us the results, to give me the position of specific frets in the scale, measuring from the bridge to a specific note, which a fret will be placed.
