Isothermal Compression of CO2

by Michael Walker

Submitted : Fall 2011

It is suggested that carbon dioxide should be stored in underground reservoirs in order to prevent global warming. In this project I figured out how much power a compressor needs to compress 1 bar of CO2 at to 25 bars at a constant temperature of 300 Kelvin. Due to high pressures, the Ideal Gas equation and Van Der Waals do not give as precise enough answers. Through using the Redlich-Kwong equation, the given equation for Power and various property constants, I managed to solve for Power.
