Submitted : Fall 2011

The report outlines a dynamic analysis of a 2-rod rotating mechanism. The rods are connected through a slider block. One of the rods (driving rod) rotates with a constant angular velocity while the other (the follower rod) follows the motion through the slider block. This type of mechanism is known as “Whitworth Quick Return Mechanism”. The dynamic analysis consists of two parts, the analytical part and computational part. In analytical part, a complete mathematical model is developed and the behavior of follower rod is analyzed by plotting the variation of angular velocity and acceleration of the follower with respect to the driver position. Subsequently, the same problem was modeled in the computational software and simulation was run. The outputs of the simulations were analyzed to get the same data which was obtained during analytical part. In the end, a comparison of the results of both the approaches is given.
