Determining the Order of Reaction between FD&C Red Dye and Bleach

by Sonya Yim

Submitted : Spring 2011

In order to find the overall order of a reaction, one must be able to find the sub-reactions’ rate of order. The data available is the absorbance obtained between a uniform concentration of Bleach and different concentrations of FD&C Red solutions, a part of the overall reaction. Using three different methods involving derivatives and integrals, this paper will investigate and determine which one of the methods is most efficient in determining the rate order of a reaction.
