Quantifying the Mind: Investigating Units of Memory

At the core of every individual lies the desire to understand the mind.  The entire spectrum of scientists and mathematicians—from psychologists to anthropologists to even engineers—has sought some form of answer to the mystery of the human brain.  Though physicians may use words and physicists numbers, nearly all researchers have touched on a description of mental capacity and unlocking the secrets of knowledge and memory.  This project is merely a preliminary glance into an infinite range of possibilities for quantifying the units of the mind:  memories.

The project entails a basic study of memory and the implications of various methods for investigation on the subject matter.  The greatest challenge to the questions surrounding the quantity of memory is the unit of memory itself.  Through mathematical perspectives, graphs, and other such models, I seek to probe a bit more into the greatly disparate theories out there.  Be it the relationship on a cellular level with the number of neurons or retention of information over time, we still do not yet have the answer.  What follows is an attempt to synthesize these models to attain a more complete illustration of the aging mind.
