Prosthetic Limb Cover Sleeve(s)

Submitted : Spring 2010

For this project the problem requires that someone develop a simple prosthetic limb by rotating a function around any axis on a graph. With this function not only must someone create a scale image of a prosthetic limb, they must find the surface area of the prosthesis. After determining the complete surface area of the newly developed limb they must calculate the cost of purchasing material to create a fire retardant sleeve or sleeves to cover the limb. This project requires that someone find or develop a problem in the engineering field that calculus could be applied to in order to solve. The problem required a classic integral formula be used and some simple arithmetic afterwards to determine pricing. From this problem one may learn and develop a better understanding of what kinds of math go into the development of prosthesis equipment.
