Optimization of a Storage Tank

by Conrad Weaver

Submitted : Spring 2010

A company wants to construct a storage tank that holds petroleum. One has to determine a function for the radius R, which is given to equal the cost of the tank, find the derivative of that funtion with respect to R, and then set equal to zero. once one has solved for R, they can plug that value into the original equation to determine the best cost for that storage tank. Also one can find length and thickness once the optimal value for R has been found.
