Optimization of a Three-Stage Compressor

by Dammie Yesudhas

Submitted : Spring 2010

The goal for the project is to find the pressures P2 and P3 that will minimize the total work per unit mass power required by the compressors. In order to do that, optimization and partial derivatives must be utilized. Firstly, form an equation that provides the total work per mass unit done by the system. Then, plug in all the values that is given into the equation and one should be left with two variables, P2 and P3. Use partial derivate, because there are two variables, to find the pressures that will minimize (optimization) the work done by each compressor.
