Pulse Wave Propagation in Arterial System

by Alazhar Al Sawafi

Submitted : Fall 2017

The heart creates blood pressure upon beating and creates pulsations that propagate as waves through the tree (arterial) that are reflected at transitions in arterial geometry and elasticity. The Waves carries the information about the arteries and veins in which they propagate. Therefore, modeling of arterial wave propagation elaborates or increases our knowledge about how the cardiovascular system functions and helps us to diagnose disorders and predict the outcome of medical interventions. In this project the main focus is on the mathematical modeling of pulse wave velocity, based on general principles of fluid dynamics.
