Test Pool for Boat Engine Performance Diagnostics

The objective of this research paper was to successfully design a test pool that can be easily built and is capable of having a boat submerged into it for effective engine diagnostic testing. Attached herein as Appendix A and Appendix B are detailed one-dimensional and two-dimensional images, respectively, of the proposed test pools, as well as a Main Key, which provides a breakdown of the dimensions and measurements in each of the appendices. There are key considerations for the appropriate use of a test pool, such as the water level. The boat and trailer will displace some of this water, therefore the proper water level must be found in order to maintain adequate water pickup by the engine and to prevent the test pool overflowing.

 The proposed test pool design is intended for inboard engine boats of a length no longer than thirty (30) feet, not including the length of the trailer, and is easily adapted to accommodate one (1) to (2) boats at a time. However, the design is simple in nature, making it both cost effective and easy to modify as needed, including for use on boats that are not inboard engine boats, such as outboard engines and stern-driven engines. As a result, the proposed design addresses the problem of having to take a recently-serviced or repaired boat to an actual body of water offsite, which is burdensome, time consuming and costly for both the customer and the repair facility. This is especially true in instances which a facility is not in reasonably close proximity to a body of water.
