USING WHEELS ENCODERS TO DETERMINE THE PATHS FOR A ROBOT

Submitted : Spring 2017

Nowadays, human can use Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the current position of a robot and control it to go somewhere. However, in some cases, the GPS system might not help because the GPS’s signal cannot reach the object in places such as indoor, underground or under the ocean. The goal of this project is to determine the current position of the robot by using wheels’ encoders’ method to calculate the amount of the revolution of the left and the right wheels. Based on the result, we can also control the robot to go somewhere from the starting point by giving constant amount of revolution to the wheels. The result of this project can be applied to use robots to pick up stuffs from the warehouse of some companies such as Amazon, eBay or FedEx.
