Fluid Behavior in a Pipe

by Thien Vu

Submitted : Spring 2016

This project explores fluid dynamics with the use of physics and calculus to determine the behaviors of Newtonian fluids in a pipe. Using the basic definition of the force balance between pressure and the shear stress of a fluid in a pipe, we are able to derive it to receive an equation for the velocity profile of a pipe. With the equation of the velocity profile, we can calculate the flow rate of fluid through the pipe through integration techniques. The force applied to a plate from fluid expelled from the pipe can then be determined.
