Utilization of Taylor Series and Polynomials in Civil Engineering

by Austin Barkley

Submitted : Spring 2016

By using the capabilities and applications of Taylor series and polynomials, approximations can be made for complicated functions, and even transcendental functions, to a high degree of certainty. This is essential to the goals of engineering in our ever-evolving world because we can use these functions to understand real world structures like bridges and buildings, as well as be able to calculate required amounts of materials. These capabilities of Taylor series and polynomials will be demonstrated through the Taylor expansions of different functions and analyses of accuracy.
