The Ideal Speed for the Turning Gear of a Rotor

by Courtney Garbett

Submitted : Spring 2016

The objective of this paper is to determine a speed for the turning gear can be chosen which is above the “clacking” speed of the rotor, thus avoiding any wear concerns. However, it is ideal if this speed can be as low as possible, since a higher speed requires more power for the turning gear motor. This paper will give insight into the most sustainable speed of a rotor through a mathmatical approach. It will also use Physics to find the most efficient speed to avoid all wear concerns.
