U.S. Agricultural Land and Brazil Growth Trends

by Victoria Koster

Submitted : Fall 2015

Agriculture is a huge industry throughout the world and has resulted in the drastic changes of the land visible in both developed and developing countries. The U.S. presents little deforestation but a large amount of suburban development due to demand for non-urban living. In contrast, Brazil presents deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest to fuel their economy. Brazil presents an environmental problem due to the quick rate of growth in the industry. A comparison of the data is possible with formulating the rate of change of agricultural land growth. Brazil’s rate of growth is 1.45, nearly nine times larger than comparable data in the U.S.
