Stochastic Modeling of Drug Aggregation

by Stephanie Feola

Submitted : Spring 2014

In the field of drug discovery, the usable amount of a drug delivered to the body is essential to the effectiveness of a particular drug treatment. The amount of usable drug is affected by the how the drug behaves in solution and whether it forms an aggregate. Through the utilization of experimental data, mathematical models and computational simulations of a drug, we can predict the amount of aggregation, the amount of drug free in solution and therefore the effective amount of drug delivered in a treatment. Understanding how a drug behaves is essential for the modeling of how it will interact with a biological system.
