The Use of Pi in Mechanical Engineering

by Hung Do

Submitted : Fall 2013

Pi is a numerical constant that expresses the fixed ratio between the diameter and circumference of a circle. This constant is essential in calculations of many engineering fields. In this project, the value of pi is calculated using power series representation. The value then is shown to be helpful in a mechanical engineering application dealing with the amount of work of a piston in a car engine.
