Computation Fluid Dynamics Investigation of Nanoparticles in Injector

by Christopher Allemang

Submitted : Fall 2013

In this project the Surface Science Laboratory’s (SSL) injector was simulated using the computation fluid dynamics solver, OpenFOAM, to determine the velocity of the nanoparticles. The velocity is dependent on the pressure gradient and distance between the capillary and the wire mesh. When the velocity is solved for, the SLL can manipulate the pressure gradient and distance to get an exact velocity. With an exact velocity, particle size can be determined.
