Optimal Operation of an Evaporator

by Rihana Aboulhosn

Submitted : Fall 2013

This project consists of the optimization of the operating strategy for an industrial evaporator. The process considered here is run in batches to concentrate solids dissolved in liquid. Minimizing the cost function for the evaporation process, the following values are determined; the optimum number of batches, the optimum cycle time, the ideal volume of the vessel, the ideal surface area of the heating element and the total cost.
