Dive Profiles: The Varying Permeability Model

by Mathew Gibson

Submitted : Spring 2013

The purpose of this project was to determine whether or not the Varying Permeability Model is an accurate algorithm for producing single and repetitive dive profiles. The given critical volume equation is integrated by in-water and surface portions. The in-water and surface portions are then inserted back into the critical volume equation. VPM parameters related to size of bubble formation nuclei are calculated. As well, they are plugged back into the critical volume equation. Using this expression we thus can calculate safe and accurate decompression profiles.
