Simulation of Model Rocket Flight

by Joshua Stone

Submitted : Spring 2013

This project seeks to answer the question of how high a certain model rocket will reach when the thrust curve over time is known. Beginning by estimating the rockets launch using Euler’s method with the help of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, the formulas describing velocity and height for vertical flight are applied. Then graph the height over time and velocity over time so both graphs can be compared. In the end, it was found that the rocket would reach a height of approximately 132 meters before the force of gravity would send the rocket back towards the ground.
