Sizing of an Automotive Clutch

Clutches work by utilizing friction between two points when the clutch is engaged the two systems can react with each other. When the clutch pedal is depressed, the pressure plate releases the clutch disk from the flywheel and the transmission and engine are decoupled.  When the clutch pedal is released, the pressure plate presses the clutch disk against the flywheel.  Friction between the flywheel and clutch disk forces the two to (eventually) move at the same rotational speed. For this project I used calculus to find the sutiable inner and outer diameter for the frictional area of a clutch plate for a vehicle producing 500lb/ft of torque.
