Comparative Analysis of GPS Data

by Kiel von Lindenberg

Submitted : Spring 2012

The goal of this project was to calculate distance using two different methods with data gathered from a GPS (Global Positioning System) application on a smart phone. The data was gathered from a short bicycle ride around the University of South Florida’s campus. Distances were calculated using Haversine’s formula, and the area under the curve of Speed over Time. The distances were then compared to the distance calculation by the application.
