Optimization of a Chemical Reactor

by Geraldine Serrano

Submitted : Spring 2012

The objective of this project was to find the optimal temperature and residence time to maximize the profit in a continuous stirred tank reactor. First, profits were found as a function of temperature and residence time. Then, it was optimize by finding the critical points through the first partial derivatives and the second derivatives test. Finally, the optimal values for the temperature and residence time were used to find the maximum profit, reactor volume, costs and sales.
