Optimum Location of a Power Plant

Submitted : Spring 2012

Deciding on the optimal location for a power plant given four cities such that the total length of transmission line required connecting each city to the power plant is minimized.  We can do this by composing a formula that represents the total distance of the transmission line as the sum of the distances connecting the power plant to each of the cities.  Taking the first order partial derivatives yields the optimal overall transmission line length by outputting the optimal location of the power plant.
