Bicycle Speed Through Different Gears and Drag

by Gregory Alba

Submitted : Spring 2012

In this project I was to find the velocity a person on a bicycle and find the velocity as it pertained to time through three different gear changes. As I began this project I would have to use simple algebra at first to get missing variables that were missing information in the original details. In doing so I also found that in order to retrieve more variables such as the angular velocity I would need to take the bike out and calculate determined on rotations and time. Upon receiving that information the problem then became integrating based on the formula dv/dt= (Froad-Fdrag)/M. Where upon finding the results based on this formula the results spanning from the fist gear change could calculate the last two gear change times or v(t).
