Optimization of a Chemical Reactor Train

by Geraldine Serrano

Submitted : Fall 2011

This project is about the optimization of a chemical reactor train of continuous stirred tank reactors. The problem provides the design equation for the CSTR for a first order reaction AàB, and the cost function for each reactor. Assuming that all the reactors placed in series would have the same volume, by using the first derivative test, it was determined the number of reactors that will result in the lowest cost possible, and with this number it was determined the volume for each reactor, and the total cost of all the reactors.
