Blood Glucose Levels

Submitted : Spring 2011

The purpose of this project is to prove that the given mathematical model can be used to estimate the glucose levels in the blood as time progresses. The given equation is manipulated with the use of techniques such as separation of variables and the integration constant of a first order differential equation, resulting in a function that described the glucose concentration in terms of time. Constants such as k1, k2, A0 and G0 describe values that affect the levels of glucose in the blood. The equation is then plotted and used to develop an expression that allowed us to find the time at which the glucose concentration is at its highest. The equation is then used to test two cases where the maximum glucose level could not exceed 120mg/dL while the amount of carbohydrates (A0) and the amount of glycemic index (k1) were varied, independently.
