Optimization of a Heat Exchanger

by Jose Aparicio

Submitted : Fall 2008

Minimizing the total operation cost of a heat exchanger with respect to the coolant outlet temperature is a classical problem of engineering. Using the first derivative test of Calculus, the optimal outlet temperature can be calculated with respect to both the heat transfer area and the coolant flow rate.
