Mathematical Modeling of Radiographic Imagery of a Variable Density 3D Object

by Justin Stottlemyer

Submitted : Fall 2010

The purpose of this project is to create a mathematical model for the 3D projection of a 4D (three spatial dimensions plus density) object when imaged using radiation.  A function will be developed to model the projection as seen by a radiation detector after radiation  has traveled through the object.  Density and thickness of the object will be modeled as the height in a three-dimensional  graph of the equation with respect to position.  This will provide a 3D representation of the radiograph.  A contour plot of this 3D representation will then be used to replicate a traditional 2D radiographic image.
