Model of Accumulation of Lead in Water over Time

by Emma Rissman

Submitted : Spring 2016

An equation was found for calculating the concentration of lead that dissolves in water based on the exponential model of diffusion (Van Der Leer, D., Weatherill, N., Sharp, R., & Hayes, C. (2016)). Standard values were for the initial mass transfer rate and the equilibrium concentration of lead in water based on degree of plumbosolvency. Values for low, moderate, and high plumbosolvency were used, and the concentration of lead that dissolved was determined. These values were then compared to the EPA’s reported action level for lead concentration in order to determine the relevancy of the data found.
