Crime Mapping with Calculus

by James Parsons

Submitted : Spring 2016

We examine a crime map of the city of Tampa portraying various types of crimes that occurred within the past month, and find the area containing the majority of these incidents.  We then find the size of this area and compare it to the total land area of the city.  A general idea is gained of the approximate portion of the city that is prone to crime, and therefore, we gain a perspective of how safe the city is overall, based on this ratio.
